New Classical Music – lively, fresh, innovative

The four Sindelfingen brothers Fabian, Jonathan, Lukas and David are anything but ordinary musicians. With tuba, piano, viola and recorder in a unique line-up, they redefine classical music – virtuosic, innovative, boundless. Each of them brings their own individual style to the table, but on stage they merge into a unit that captivates the audience.

Their versatility ranges from the minimalist soundscapes of Oliver Davis to the rousing grooves of Jonathan Hanke and a humorous musical journey around the world by Aleksey Igudesman. In their new program “Express Yourself”, they invite the audience to experience music in a new way. No two Hanke Brothers concerts are the same. No piece remains as you know it. With unbridled enthusiasm and a love of experimentation, they break musical boundaries and surprise with unexpected sounds: David plays two recorders simultaneously, Lukas taps out the rhythm on the viola, Jonathan plucks piano strings and Fabian wields the tuba like no other. Their unmistakable sound combines influences from classical music, pop, jazz, techno and world music to create a mix that stands for “New Classical Music” – a style that merges serious and popular music.

But the Hanke Brothers don’t just inspire with their music. True to their motto “Music overcomes boundaries”, they are actively committed to social change. In their social projects such as “BROTHERS FOR MUSIC”, they inspire children and young people in workshops to discover their passion for music. In 2024, they were awarded the OPUS KLASSIK, the most important prize in classical music, as music and classical music ambassadors for their commitment.

Since their foundation in 2017, the Hanke Brothers have been at home on Germany’s major stages and have been awarded the honorary title of “JM artist” by Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland. They are regular guests at renowned festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Gezeitenkonzerte, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele, Heidelberger Frühling and Mozartfest Würzburg.
The Hanke Brothers are currently curators of the Meisterkonzerte Würzburg and, with their association BROTHERS FOR MUSIC e.V., are committed to innovative music education projects and the New Classical Music Festival.
