New Classic as a language of humanity
“Art creates an antithesis to hate” – this guiding principle characterizes the work of pianist and composer Marina Baranova. Born into a family of musicians in Kharkiv, Ukraine, her path led her to Germany via an exceptional education and international competitions. Her extraordinary talent became apparent at an early age: at the age of five she was accepted into the music high school for the gifted, and at the age of eleven she won her first international competition.
Marina Baranova’s musical home was diverse from the very beginning. Her parents, both pianists, created a creative environment in which classical music, jazz and improvisation merged. This versatility still characterizes her playing and her projects today. At the end of the 1990s, she moved to Germany to study with Wladimir Krainew in Hanover. Marina Baranova is passionate about composing New Classic – a musical style that combines classical tradition with modern sounds, creating a unique sound. The works are emotional and atmospheric – exciting and relaxing at the same time – and create a captivating atmosphere. Artists such as Ludovico Einaudi, Natalie Portman and Alexis French have shaped this versatile genre with their innovative approaches and inspiring compositions.
She won prestigious prizes during her studies and began her international concert career. Her passionate interpretations have won over audiences and the press at festivals such as the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Festival, the Vienna Music Week, the Merano Classic Festival, the Beethovenfest Bonn, the Granada Piano Festival, the Schumann Festival Week in Leipzig, the Beethoven Night at the Heidelberg Stadthalle and the Bonn Schumannfest. Marina Baranova has performed on renowned stages in Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, Holland, Belgium, Poland, Ukraine, Israel, Mexico and Japan.
In addition to classical music, she also devotes herself to innovative, cross-genre projects. Her compositions and premieres, including electro-acoustic works and improvisation projects, open up new worlds of sound. Her album “Firebird” shows her creative signature in her own compositions, accompanied by oriental percussion.
Marina Baranova combines musical tradition with visionary ideas. Her art is a powerful plea for humanity, creativity and dialog.
